Justin McCarthy Joins DGA Group as Partner in U.S. Government Relations Practice
Washington, D.C., September 4, 2024 — DGA Group, an expert-led advisory firm, is pleased to announce that Justin McCarthy has joined the firm as a Partner in its U.S. Government Relations practice. With a distinguished career spanning public service and the private sector, Mr. McCarthy brings a wealth of expertise in trade, tax and health policy that will enhance the firm’s ability to provide strategic advice to clients dealing with complex, high-stakes issues. He is based in Washington, D.C. and joins from Akin.
Mr. McCarthy’s extensive U.S. government experience includes serving as Special Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs during the George W. Bush administration. In this role, he acted as a principal liaison and advocate for the President to the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. He was instrumental in developing, coordinating and executing White House strategies on priority issues, including leading efforts on free trade agreements with Colombia, Korea, and Panama, as well as Trade Adjustment Assistance, tax issues, the Farm Bill, and the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
Before his White House tenure, Mr. McCarthy was appointed by President Bush as the Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Congressional Affairs. In this capacity, he led congressional efforts on free trade agreements and major international negotiations, including the Doha Round of World Trade Organization negotiations and Permanent Normal Trade Relations with Ukraine and Vietnam.
Most recently, Mr. McCarthy served as a Senior Advisor at Akin in Washington, D.C. He also has a background in the private sector, having served as Director of Government Relations at Pfizer Inc., where he managed healthcare, intellectual property, international trade and tax issues.
