James Birkett is an Associate Partner at DGA Group and is based in London.  He draws on his wide-ranging experience of intelligence and investigations work to advise clients on a variety of matters, including their handling of contentious situations and complex questions of commercial strategy. 

Mr. Birkett’s practice at DGA Group encompasses areas including due diligence, strategic research, asset tracing and disputes support, alongside work on special situations such as activist defence and market entry. While the bulk of his work is focused on Europe and North America, his expertise lies in Africa, South Asia and the Middle East. 

Before joining DGA Group, Mr. Birkett spent 15 years with Alaco Limited, a London-based intelligence boutique, serving as Director of Research and forming part of the leadership team which established Alaco as one of the top-ranked firms in its space. He also spent part of his early career working for an NGO in Bangladesh.

Mr. Birkett holds a B.A. in history from the University of York and an M.A. in Middle Eastern studies from the University of Manchester.  His writing on global business risk has been carried in publications including The Diplomat and the South China Morning Post.
