Ambassador Luis Guillermo Plata Páez is a senior advisor at DGA-Albright Stonebridge Group, a founding member of DGA Group, and is based in Bogotá. He brings extensive public- and private-sector experience in Colombia, Spain and East Asia to the firm’s Americas practice.

Ambassador Plata served as Colombia’s ambassador to Spain under President Iván Duque Márquez from 2021 to 2022. Previously, he served as Colombia’s manager for comprehensive emergency response during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, coordinating the government strategy that secured medical supplies, expanded intensive care capacity, and obtained international support and emergency funding.

From 2007 to 2010, Ambassador Plata served as Colombia’s minister of trade, industry and tourism, where he led export growth efforts and negotiated free trade agreements with the European Union, Canada, Central America, Switzerland and Chile. Previously, he was president of ProColombia, the country’s export development agency, from 2002 to 2007.

In the private sector, Ambassador Plata has worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Co., an entrepreneur in Silicon Valley and a private equity investor. He serves on the boards of publicly traded and privately held companies across the region.

Ambassador Plata holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Arizona and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. He has received numerous honors, including Colombia’s Order of San Carlos, the Colombian Senate’s Order of Democratic Merit, and designation as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
