Karel Joos
Karel Joos is a Partner at DGA Group and is based in Brussels. He provides clients with public affairs, corporate communications and crisis communications advice.
Author of the first-ever textbook on corporate public affairs in the Benelux, Mr. Joos leads DGA’s work on the Belgian market, with specific expertise in healthcare, especially in reimbursements and reputational issues for pharmaceutical companies. He is a past board member of Bepact, the Belgian community of public affairs professionals where he still heads training and education, and a member of the team of PPP specialists for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
He served as a career officer in the Belgian armed forces until 1997, and as a management consultant, he co-authored four books on transportation economics. He was a mobility & infrastructure policy advisor to the Minister-President of the Flemish government and a policy director to the Belgian minister for companies of public law, overseeing policymaking for the Belgian railways, postal operator Bpost and telecommunications operator Proximus.
Mr. Joos holds an M.S. in civil engineering technology, an M.A. in applied economics and received officers’ training and education in the Royal School of Cadets, the Royal Military Academy and the Engineers Corps Academy, all in Belgium. Priding himself on his finely-honed storytelling skills, he has published three literary novels and a novella, and is a contributor of op-eds in leading Belgian news media such as De Standaard, De Morgen, De Tijd, VRTNWS and Knack. He speaks Dutch, English, French, German and Spanish.
