João Taborda da Gama
João Taborda da Gama is a Senior Advisor at DGA-Albright Stonebridge Group and is based in Lisbon. He advises corporations and governments on tax and regulatory issues and serves as an arbitrator in public law disputes.
Mr. Taborda da Gama is also a member of the Business Ethics Committee of the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Industry Association (APIFARMA). Previously, he served as a Cabinet Member of the Portuguese Government, as Secretary of State for Local Government in 2015, and as a Political Advisor to the President of Portugal from 2011 to 2013, focusing on political strategy and tax policy during the EU/ECB/IMF Economic Assistance Program. Additionally, he led the Municipal Financial Recovery Legislative Commission, which drafted legislation to address municipal debt and was involved in creating the Portuguese tax rulings mechanism.
Currently, Mr. Taborda da Gama directs the post-graduate tax program at the Catholic University of Portugal School of Law, where he teaches taxation and tax policy, including energy and natural resources taxation. He has authored several publications on tax law and is a co-author of the Angolan Tax Law textbook, frequently teaching on Angolan taxation. He is also a Founding Partner of Gama Glória, a Lisbon law firm specializing in strategic legal advice in regulated sectors.
Mr. Taborda da Gama is a member of the Business Ethics Committee of the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Industry Association (APIFARMA) and the Practice Council of the International Tax Program at the New York University School of Law. He is an op-ed columnist for Diário de Notícias, regularly commenting on tax and regulatory issues in the Portuguese media.
Mr. Taborda da Gama holds a J.D. and a Master’s in Public Law from the University of Lisbon and has conducted research at New York University School of Law and Georgetown University Law Center.
