Eric Altbach
Eric G. Altbach is a Partner at DGA-Albright Stonebridge Group, a founding member of DGA Group, and is based in Washington, D.C. He co-leads the firm’s East Asia & Pacific practice, informed by over 25 years of experience working in the government and private sector on U.S. relations with Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan and other East Asian markets.
Mr. Altbach’s expertise includes trade and investment policy, government affairs, geopolitical risk analysis and strategic planning. He has worked extensively with clients in the technology, health and life sciences, and non-profit sectors.
Prior to joining DGA-ASG, Mr. Altbach served as Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for China Affairs, where he was responsible for trade negotiations with Taiwan and China. Previously, Mr. Altbach served at the White House National Security Council as Director for Asian Economic Affairs, where he managed interagency coordination on economic policy matters for China, Japan, South Korea and other Asian countries. He also held several roles at the U.S. Department of State, including serving in the Office of Japan Affairs, and as a Senior Economic Analyst in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, covering Japan and the Korean peninsula.
In addition to his government experience, Mr. Altbach was Vice President for Economic and Trade Affairs at the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR), where he developed research initiatives related to U.S.-Asia economic relations.
Mr. Altbach has been interviewed on U.S.-Asia relations and trade issues by media outlets including Bloomberg, CNBC, The New York Times, NPR, Reuters and The Wall Street Journal, among others.
Mr. Altbach holds an M.A. in political science from the University of California-San Diego and a B.A. in political science from Columbia University. He received a Fulbright scholarship to conduct research on Japanese industrial policy and Japan-Southeast Asia trade and investment relations.
