May 20, 2024 – DGA, an expert-led multidisciplinary advisory firm, has launched a comprehensive offering to support the private sector in navigating the diverse opportunities and challenges stemming from AUKUS, the landmark trilateral security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This offering is the first in a series that builds on the firm’s extensive security and technology capabilities.

“AUKUS has opened new avenues for collaboration and innovation across defense, technology, and scientific spheres,” said Meredith Miller, Partner and Co-Lead of the firm’s East Asia & Pacific practice. “Recognizing the complexities and nuances of this evolving landscape, we are proud to offer a tailored solution to empower businesses to develop opportunities and overcome challenges effectively.”

Combining its government relations, public policy, commercial diplomacy, and communications expertise, DGA’s offering will help clients participate in public-private partnerships opportunities afforded by AUKUS and navigate funding, policy, and regulatory issues.

“The evolving security challenges in the Indo-Pacific and around the world necessitates the bold vision of AUKUS. We share the sentiment of government and industry who want to see smooth and rapid progress on AUKUS priorities,” said Spencer P. Boyer, former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy and Partner and Lead of the firm’s National Security, Defense, and Aerospace practice.

“The war in Ukraine and Russia’s aggression has shown the world that alliances and partnership are important in managing global security challenges, and the private sector has an important role to play,” said Ambassador Philip T. Reeker, Lead of the firm’s Europe & Eurasia practice. “AUKUS offers a clear framework for governments to collaborate with industry to achieve common goals.”

Private sector opportunities under the AUKUS framework are significant, including defense contracts, technology transfer, investment in research & development, supply chain integration, and new export markets, but companies need to be prepared to manage regulatory risk, political volatility, and cost pressures.

“DGA is uniquely positioned across all AUKUS countries to help businesses drive policy and coalesce in advocating for the necessary reforms across government to advance the goals of AUKUS,” said Nicole Frazier, former White House official and Associate Partner of the firm’s Government Relations practice.

DGA’s multidisciplinary and multijurisdictional offering includes:

  • Strategic Advisory Services: Providing customized strategic guidance on emerging opportunities within the AUKUS framework by leveraging our experts’ extensive experience, insights and relationships across Australia, the U.K. and U.S.
  • Market Intelligence and Opportunity Identification: Delivering actionable market intelligence through monitoring and analysis.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Providing comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities associated with AUKUS-related ventures; followed by collaborating with clients to develop robust and tailored mitigation strategies.
  • Policy and Regulatory Monitoring: Delivering in-depth analysis of AUKUS-related policies and regulations, enabling clients to navigate complex compliance requirements and regulatory frameworks effectively.
  • Coalition Building: Spearheading coalition building, facilitating strategic partnerships and alliances among private sector entities and governments to maximize opportunities within the AUKUS framework.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communications: Assisting clients in effectively engaging with key stakeholders, articulating their objectives and navigating public perception.

“There is still significant work to be done in building a coherent advanced research and development ecosystem across all three jurisdictions,” said William Wallace, Partner of the firm’s U.K. Public Affairs practice. “Industry has a significant opportunity to work closely with government to ensure their specialties are considered and remain agile to emerging AUKUS requirements.”
