Karel Joos

Karel Joos is a Partner at DGA Group in Brussels. He specializes in public affairs, corporate communications, and crisis communications. He works with clients across a diverse cross-section of industries, including industrials, technology, energy, infrastructure, mobility, logistics, healthcare and life sciences.

Mr. Joos’ career has been multi-faceted. After receiving military training and education in the Royal School of Cadets, the Royal Military Academy, and the Engineers Corps Academy, he served as a career officer in the Belgian armed forces. A trained construction engineer and a financial economist, he has also served as a management consultant and has co-authored four books on transportation economics. Prior to joining DGA Group (formerly Interel), he worked as an advisor to the Minister-President of the Flemish government and as a director in the cabinet of the Belgian minister for public sector enterprises, where he supervised policymaking for the Belgian railways and postal services operator post and telecommunications operator Proximus.

Mr. Joos is an expert on public-private partnerships (PPPs) and is a member of the team of PPP specialists for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Currently, he is a member of Bepact, a community of Belgian public affairs professionals, where he leads training and education. He also published the first-ever textbook on corporate public affairs in the Benelux.

Fluent in Dutch, English, and French, with a conversational knowledge of German and Spanish, Mr. Joos is a government affairs specialist who prides himself on his finely-honed storytelling skills. He has published three novels, a novella and is an op-ed contributor in leading Flemish news media such as De Standaard, De Morgen, De Tijd, VRT and Knack.
